Fuori Salone 2014
Isola / Island di Letizia Cariello

As part of the Milan Design Week Fuori Salone, Fratelli Rossetti is to host the installation Isola/Island by Letizia Cariello. Born in Copparo (Ferrara), Letizia calls Milan home. The artist’s favorite lace ups, according to the masculine norm of Fratelli Rossetti take center stage in a timeless setting, to celebrate the poetry of the everyday as a castaway evidence.

The installation will be hosted in the windows of Fratelli Rossetti boutique Montenapoleone, Milan throughout Salone del Mobile (April 8th – 13th 2014).

The artist comments: “When Fratelli Rossetti contacted me it made so much sense. I just drew out something consistent: a dialogue with the objects, shoes, interiors that I had already started elsewhere. I know Rossetti and the spots, I know the shoes. As a result, the imaginary Island was already in my mind.”

“Fratelli Rossetti is pleased to highlight a talented artist and her poetry of the everyday. Letizia’s work is mindful of the contemporary world, and Milan is the perfect place to host it: Isola pays homage to its creative-meets-meditative soul.”

Letizia Cariello’s research brings tangible structure to themes such as detachment and isolation, be it solitude or the quest of understanding in everyday objects. Through repetition and meticulous accuracy, she looks into the world of human feelings, questioning the relationship between our inner self and the world, as well as the creation of images through mixed media: photography, installations, videos and drawings.

Letizia Cariello’s Neapolitan origins benefit from over two hundred years of commitment with sculpture. Before art, she worked in cinema in Italy and the US. Her works can be seen in both public and private collections worldwide. Letizia was chosen by the European Community to take part in the “New Narrative for Europe” project along with other European artists. She lives and works in Milan where she teaches at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Brera, and she is represented by Galleria Massimo Minini Brescia.

Fratelli Rossetti was founded in Parabiago, in the outskirts of Milan in 1953. Today it is headed by the second generation, namely brothers Diego, Luca and Dario, sons of Renzo Rossetti. In 60 years of commitment to quality shoemaking, the company has become synonymous with the utmost style, both in Italy and abroad.
